Woke vs. Awake: The Gap is Great

The gap between the woke and the awake is getting greater and greater while the cost to stay awake is getting higher and higher. The more aware of the difference between the Word and the world I become, the more evident the distance between those who are woke and those who are awake becomes. The gap is growing greater because the two are going in opposite directions.

Let me take a moment to define the two terms I’m using (as I understand their meaning and as I am using them in this post):

Woke — those who are aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice). They typically advocate for reconciliation by extra-Biblical and anti-Biblical means using the framework of ideologies such as Critical Theory and Critical Race Theory, and in my opinion, defeat the purpose of reconciliation by further dividing people by intersectionality (or the interconnected nature of social categorizations such as race, class, and gender as they apply to a given individual or group, regarded as creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage).

Two quotes I recently read that sum up wokeness pretty well:

Wokeness is today’s religion. Cancel culture is it’s sacrament. — David Benham

Wokeness is a graceless religion. It never forgives past missteps. Its mission is to kill, steal, and destroy. It wants destruction and not restoration. As you stand for Biblical truth, wokeness will criticize you, demonize you, terrorize you, and someday soon, criminalize you. But love... Love keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not dishonor others. Choose love, not hate. Reject cancel culture. — Brian J. Dixon

And now, my take on being awake…

Awake — those who are aware of the enemy’s deception and use of these worldly ideologies to try to confuse Biblical Truth. Those who hold fast to sound doctrinal theology and see things through the lens of a Biblical Worldview realizing God does not show partiality, nor does He want His people to show partiality. (James 2:1, Acts 10:34-35, Romans 2:11, Galatians 3:28, 1 Timothy 5:21, Proverbs 28:21) Those who are awake, in my opinion, are wide awake and well aware of the deception and want to stand up for the Truth they know is the only way to true reconciliation.

The woke want to right the wrongs of the world by their own means and with their own terms and conditions while the awake know only God can right the wrongs, in fact, He already did, and it has NOTHING to do with us and what we do or don’t do and EVERYTHING to do with Him and what He has already done on our behalf.

You either see it or you don’t. Ironically, the woke, in my opinion, are blind to Biblical Truth. They may be socially alert and aware, but they are spiritually asleep and desperately need to beware of the dangers of thinking like, looking like, and eventually being just like the world.

I’m not here to judge motives or feelings or anything else for that matter. In fact, I welcome dialogue about this subject, because I want to understand where people are, and be able to share in more detail the journey I’ve been on the past few months to understand it all as God wants me to through the filter of His Word and the standard of His Truth. Only God sees our hearts. I trust Him to reveal truth even where lies are being spewed. I trust His Holy Spirit to convict our hearts so we can right our wrongs by being right with Him.

I am here to stand up for His Truth, the only Truth, and nothing but the Truth. And taking that kind of stand not only requires boldly saying there is a RIGHT and WRONG way, it also requires walking in that way by resisting the WRONG way lest we start thinking the WRONG way is the RIGHT way.

The gap is growing greater because the woke are growing more intolerant of anything contrary to their way of thinking, and the awake are growing more resistant to anything contrary to God’s way of living.

“Jesus said, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life and no one comes to the Father except  through me.” (John 14:6) He is the ONLY WAY, the ONLY RIGHT WAY. There is NO OTHER WAY; therefore, ANY OTHER WAY is the WRONG WAY.

The gap will only grow greater as the hour grows later. The longer we tolerate the tyranny from those buying in to the woke mentality, the longer we will be bullied into thinking we’re getting it wrong, when ironically, in the woke’s blind eyes, we will never ever get it right. Because in their opinion, getting it right is never even achievable — only striving, apologizing, and never realizing the price has already been paid, the way has already been made, and True Love and Real Forgiveness has already been displayed in the life, death, and resurrection of one man — His name is Jesus.

He finished it, and nothing will ever diminish it.

Walking with Him is the only RIGHT WAY to walk in this WRONG WAY world. He has established the way by making a way because He is the Way. There is no other way, and the world’s way will always clash with His way.

C.S. Lewis said, “When the whole world is running toward a cliff, he who is running in the opposite direction appears to have lost his mind.”

Yep folks, the woke are running hard toward that cliff, while the awake appear to have lost their minds. And guess what, they have! Or as Pastor Joe Green put it, “True Christians have lost their mind — it was replaced by the mind of Christ when they became a new creation in Christ and bid farewell to their old ways that were ruled by their old mind.” We are called to live out Romans 12:1-2.

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."

The gap between the woke and the awake will grow greater, and the cost to stay awake under the pressure of the woke will get higher. There will never be some “meeting in the middle” if one opposes God’s Word while the other embraces It, because the gap between His Word and this world is so great only Jesus can bridge it. Only He can fix it.

Woke vs. Awake. The gap is great. There is much at stake to stay awake.
