Misery loves company, but God’s Word offers victory over these three…

Overwhelmed? Complacent? Indifferent?

These three have definitely been taunting me lately.

But recently I remembered three promises from God’s Word that are helping me battle these feelings and tendencies that stem from the lies of the enemy.

If you battle them, too, might I offer these promises to you, so you can replace the lies with what is true.

When you feel overwhelmed, allow His Spirit to overwhelm you with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭22‬-‭23‬ ‭ESV‬‬

When you feel complacent, allow your place in Him to fully convince you of your place in this world. You were saved by Christ’s work on the cross so you could do good works to win the lost. Don’t allow the enemy to sabotage those works by tempting you with complacency.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭8‬-‭10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

When you feel indifferent, allow the difference Christ has made in your life to be your wake up call. Don’t allow the enemy to lull you asleep with lies that you are insignificant.

“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬-‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Don’t allow overwhelm, complacency, and indifference to define you. Surrender it all to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to refine you.

Instead of being overwhelmed by things that are out of your control, overcome doubt, fear, and anxiety with the knowledge of His sovereignty. He is in control. He sees your tears. He hears your cries. He knows your pain, and He took it all when He took your place.

Let your knowledge of the Father’s all-sufficiency replace complacency with consistency. He is more than enough to make up for your “not enough.” You still have work to do, and the work He started in you, He will see it through.

Indifference cannot take you down, when the Difference Maker has turned your life around. The difference He has made in your life is the only significance you need to make a difference.
