A Call to Prayer for the Mama Bear
/A Call to Prayer for the Mama Bear…
A mama’s work is never done, and although the specific tasks and responsibilities may change, the ultimate goal stays the same.
Protect, provide, prepare.
From toddler to teen, and every stage in between, from the moment we bring them home to the moments they are making homes of their own, we raise them to release them, in the safety of our den, before they encounter the wilderness of this wild world we live in.
While they have been given to us by God, they are ultimately His, and our goal is to steer them back to Him again and again, our role is to guide them as He promises to walk beside them.
But the older I get, the more I realize, my words to Him are more powerful than my words to them.
Yes, I will always be their mama, but more importantly than listening to me is that they listen to Him.
And as I was praying for each of my boys (or more accurately, men) this morning, I found myself in Psalm 37, a psalm King David wrote in his later years, after learning some life lessons in the ups and downs of being a “man after God’s on heart.” As I read his words, I felt a nudge.
I’d love to encourage you, as the Holy Spirit encouraged me, to turn these words into a prayer, a mama bear prayer, of protection, provision, and preparation over your kids, whether still at home or in homes of their own…
“Don’t worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong. For like grass, they soon fade away. Like spring flowers, they soon wither. Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun. Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper— it only leads to harm. For the wicked will be destroyed, but those who trust in the Lord will possess the land.” (Psalms 37:1-9, NLT)
